PJ Party – Sunday December 11th 2pm to 5pm

screen-shot-2016-12-06-at-12-38-00-pmSo much fun was had at our BBQ in September that our Senior girls at PDC wanted to find more ways to get quality time with the Junior School dancers again. What better way than a party and even more fun a PJ Party!

We also know this is the time of year when parents need to get all those Christmas chores done: shopping, wrapping or catching up with old friends.   We can help!

  • Festive snacks & drinks will be served
  • Group games, music & dancing, face painting
  • Cost: $20 – $5 per additional child
  • RSVP to Mrs Keenlyside or use sign up sheet at studio
  • Parents: Please extend our invitation to friends and family to join in the fun

Funds raised will go towards costuming “The Russian Fable”, our year-end show. Every dancer at PDC will be performing.

Adults will also be at the studio to help if needed.

This is not just babysitting, it’s a PARTY

What a wonderful afternoon spent with you all. So great to see all the students playing together and hear them laughing and having fun. Even the weather co-operated!

Also, one more very important thank you to everyone who was able to help set up, serve food, flip burgers and clean up. Your kindness is truly appreciated. We simply couldn’t have done it without you.

And a personal note from Mrs. Eastick:
Please pass on my thanks to all our stars of yesterday’s lovely barbecue! It was such fun, and I think everyone had a great time. I loved seeing the senior girls playing with the little ones, and it was great meeting new families, and chatting a bit with them. I also had the chance to catch up with a couple of former students who are bringing their children to PDC.
So thank you all again. I think it was a special day. Mrs. E.

PDC ESasha En Pointe Poster-2n Pointe Scholarship Showcase – Saturday, April 2nd, 5:30pm

Location – NEW OAK BAY HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE

This year we want to inspire all our dancers to reach out for their dreams by introducing the “Pacific Dance Centre En Pointe Scholarship”.  Our auspicious Alumni, and more recently Sasha Beardmore, have shown that we may be a small school but we are mighty.  Under the incredible tutelage and guidance of Mrs Eastick and Mrs Vernon, and with copious quantities of hard work and dedication, it really is possible to achieve your dreams!  We would like to help more dancers from our PDC family find their way there!

Sasha Beardmore has qualified again for the finals of the Youth America Grand Prix in New York in April.  Last year’s win in the Classical ballet competition was amazing enough, however, this year she also won the Contemporary competition as well as placing 2nd in Classical, an incredible achievement.  A portion of the funds raised this year for the scholarship will go towards her trip to New York and we are planning on-going fundraising to keep growing the fund for future dancers.

We will be holding a fundraiser showcase on Saturday, April 2nd at the fabulous new Oak Bay High School Theatre, please bring as many family and friends as possible! It is going to be a wonderful evening of entertainment! Finger food and refreshments will be served during the silent auction and at intermission.

  • Date: April 2nd – doors open: 5:30pm
  • Location: Oak Bay High School – 2151 Cranmore Rd, Victoria, BC V8R 1Z2
  • Silent Auction & Showcase
  • Admission by donation: cash, cheques & credit cards accepted

All PDC families are encouraged to be part of this exciting new endeavour! Here are some ways you can get involved:

  • Join our new fundraising team. Everyone welcome!
  • Volunteer at the showcase & future events
  • Donate an auction item or help our team by asking businesses that you go to often to donate
  • Bring a plate of appetizers for the evening

Please contact Mrs Keenlyside at pacificdance@hotmail.com to let us know how you can help. Our dancers are already preparing for the evening and we are all looking forward to seeing you there

VICTORIA DANCEWORKS FESTIVAL

BRAVO! Emily Spargo, Kayla Tol and Sasha Beardmore participated at the recent DanceWorks Competition. They all danced beautifully and Mrs. Eastick was so proud of them.

Sasha won Intermediate Ballet and the right to represent DanceWorks (and PDC) at the Provincial level in May!
Well done Sasha.

February 1st

WOW! Sasha Beardmore has done it again!

After the Youth America Grand Prix regional in Seattle, where she won 1st in Contemporary and 2nd in Classical Ballet, Sasha has qualified to compete in New York City for the finals of the YAGP for the second year in a row. This, alone, is an incredible achievement.

While in Seattle, Sasha auditioned for Summer Intensives with the Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle, the School of American Ballet in New York City and the Royal Ballet in London, England. She was been accepted at all three schools!!

She has decided to attend the Royal Ballet summer programme. “Since it started in 1926, the School has trained many of the world’s finest classical dancers – including Margot Fonteyn, Kenneth MacMillan, Antoinette Sibley, Anthony Dowell, Anya Linden, Jonathan Cope and Darcey Bussell. Today, the School continues to develop the talent and technique of young dancers and choreographers from all over the world.”

We couldn’t be prouder of this young dancer and wish her every success at the competition in NYC and at the Royal Ballet School.

WE SURE DO HAVE SOME TALENTED DANCERS AT PDC

Maya Sanchez – Junior Overall “Definite” Triple Threat.

We are so very proud of you!!!

Here is a message from her Mum just now.

“We just wanted to share some pretty exciting news from this past weekend…. Maya and Peyton attended the Triple Threat Convention for 2 days. They took classes in jazz, tap, Latin Jazz, contemporary and hip hop. The choreographers were from the hit TV series, So You Think You Can Dance. The girls also participated in an audition class at the end of the convention.
There were about 200 kids in the junior category and Maya was awarded THE OVERALL DEFINITE TRIPLE THREAT for the junior level. She won a scholarship to attend all the Triple Threat Conventions in 2016, money, T shirt and a chance to work privately with one of the faculty choreographers next year!
We were so proud of Maya’s accomplishments.”
Maya said, ” well I have to thank Mrs. Vernon and Mrs. Eastick for training me well”. So cute and so true!

CONGRATULATIONS TO MADELEINE CORWIN!

Recipient of the TS McPherson Scholarship to UVic.

We are extremely proud of her and all her hard work.  She was one of only four applicants to be awarded this prize.  It will take care of all her undergraduate education costs at UVIC.

” This will make school much more manageable as I will not have to get part time work as much during the school year – more time for studying”

Very well done indeed Madeleine!

So many accomplishments this week at PDC!

Wow! What an incredible couple of weeks we have had. It started with Sasha Beardmore’s trip to New York for the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) finals. Mrs. Eastick and Mrs. Vernon accompanied Sasha and her mom Kate to the Big Apple. They had an amazing time. In Mrs. Eastick’s words; “It was such a learning experience. Sasha danced beautifully and was a credit to PDC. The competition was extremely fierce and while she did not make it into the final round, She WAS offered three scholarships; one to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, the second one to the ROCK School for Dance Education in Philadelphia (the Summer Intensive and the Winter Term)  and the third to the Princess Grace Acadamie in Monaco.  She DID make a good impression and appeared in the daily film updates to the YAGP website. Nice to know the work we do at PDC is able to compete on the world stage. We discovered there were over 7000 entrants world-wide, from Mainland China, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, France, Italy, Paraguay, Germany, Ukraine, USA, the UK, Spain, Sweden, and Canada of course. I may have left out a few countries. I believe about 15 Canadians were there for the final round. There were about 1200 entrants from all those countries who qualify for the final competition in New York.  Of those 1200, about 15% are invited to participate in the masterclasses only, another 35% are ensembles and par de deux and the remaining 425 kids are competing soloists.  Roughly 150 scholarships are awarded.  To have received 4 offers is wonderful.  Sasha’s group had over 100 competitors, aged 12-14. So the fact Sasha was part of that list is quite remarkable.”

Next, Elanor Teel successfully auditioned for, and has been asked to join Central West Ballet, a small ballet company in California based out of Modesto, CA. Elanor loved the atmosphere there, and felt it all was very much like home. She is excited beyond belief. She had a chance to see the company perform in a beautiful theatre. She thought the dancers performed well, dancing a Balanchine piece, ”Who Cares”, ”Monotones” and a couple of pas de deux. The company has 23 dancers. We are thrilled for her.

Ariana Barr has been accepted into The Ailey Independent Study Program and the Ballet Jorgen George Brown dance program. She also auditioned for the Arts Umbrella VCC dance diploma program and is awaiting results.

Madeleine Corwin won first place in Senior Ballet at the Cowichan Music Festival and the right to represent CMF at the Provincials in Powell River at the end of May.

And then there was the DanceWorks festival on April 17 and 18. All our kids were lovely. Mrs. Vernon and Mrs. Eastick did such a wonderful job. The groups and soloists looked well trained and well coached. Our students were gracious and well behaved back-stage—-truly exhibiting fine PDC standards. Student volunteers Kayla Tol, Aleah Rodrigues, Kiera Won and Emily Spargo were wonderful helping out with the little ones. A huge thank you to our parent helpers; Kathryn Field, Della Doore, Lorraine Goodmanson, Angie Sanchez and Simone Whyte. They were calm and organized and made Mrs. Vernon’s life a whole lot easier. We had a lot of PDC parents and grandparents there supporting the school – It was SO nice to see. Mrs. Vernon’s group “Field Flowers” was chosen for the Gala on May 10th. Congratulations to following dancers: Jacklyn Halaburda – Gossamer Master Class Cash Award, Jr Ballet Kayla Tol – Horne Coupar Master Class Cash Award, Int Ballet Elanor Teel – Spirit of Dance (solo) – Poeme Emily Spargo – Outstanding Ballet Solo – Capriccioso Sasha Beardmore – Vivian Briggs – Convergence Molly Field – Toes N Taps Gift Certificate – Petit Pas

And finally, on April 12 at The Royal Opera House in London, England, PDC alumna Crystal Pite was awarded the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance for her choreography in the productions of The Associates – A Picture Of You Falling, The Tempest Replica and Polaris at Sadler’s Wells. http://londondance.com/articles/news/olivier-awards-2015-announced/ http://www.lcds.ac.uk/news/olivier-award-win-crystal-pite-who-worked-our-students-last-year
We are so proud of our students and of the work we do at PDC and hope that all our families share that pride.
